Product Description

ESP-12E WiFi Module Based on ESP8266

Enhanced SMD Module with PCB Antenna and More I/O

The ESP12E is an enhanced version of the popular ESP8266 WiFi module, designed as a complete and costeffective solution for adding wireless connectivity to IoT projects[citation:1][citation:4]. It integrates the ESP8266EX chip with a PCB antenna, 4MB flash memory, and exposes additional GPIO pins for more complex applications[citation:4].

Powerful WiFi SoC Based on Tensilica L106 32bit MCU running at up to 160MHz[citation:1][citation:5]
Enhanced I/O Capability Offers extra GPIO and SPI pins compared to the original ESP12[citation:4]
Operating voltage: 3.0V to 3.6V. I/O pins are 3.3V logic[citation:1][citation:5].
The module includes a built-in PCB antenna; no external antenna is required[citation:1][citation:4].
The default firmware uses AT commands for easy integration with other microcontrollers[citation:1][citation:4].
Apply 5V logic directly to GPIO pins will permanently damage the module.

Troubleshooting

Module not responding to AT commands:

  • Verify 3.0-3.6V power supply with at least 300mA current capacity.
  • Check CH_PD (EN) pin is pulled HIGH.
  • Confirm RX/TX connections are not swapped.
  • Ensure GPIO0 is HIGH for normal operation (LOW for flashing mode).

Wi-Fi connection issues:

  • Connect to 2.4GHz network only (5GHz not supported).
  • Check antenna connection and signal strength.
  • Verify SSID and password in AT commands.
