The TP4056 module is a complete constantcurrent/constantvoltage linear charger designed for singlecell lithiumion and lithiumpolymer batteries. It is widely used to safely charge popular batteries like 18650 cells for DIY electronics, portable devices, and Arduino projects. Many modules include a protection circuit to guard against overcharge, overdischarge, and short circuits.

Complete Charging Solution - Combines a linear charger IC (TP4056) with battery protection circuitry (DW01A + 8205A MOSFETs) for safe and reliable operation.
Modern USB TypeC Connection Features an onboard Type-C port for easy power input from a standard 5V USB charger or power bank.

> Ensure correct polarity when connecting the battery to B+ and B-.

The OUT+ and OUT- terminals can be used to power a load directly from the battery, but the protection circuit limits the discharge current to around 3A.
Connecting the battery with reverse polarity may damage the module, as the TP4056 does not have built-in reverse polarity protection.

Troubleshooting

Module gets hot while charging:

  • Ensure good airflow and ventilation.
  • Check if the charging current is set too high for your battery capacity (<1000mAh).
  • Reduce the charging current by replacing R3 with a higher resistor value.

Module not charging:

  • Verify the 5V power supply is connected properly and providing 4.5-5.5V.
  • Check the battery connection to B+ and B- and ensure it is not already fully charged (4.2V).
  • Check the LED indicators: Red means charging, Green/Blue means full.

Battery voltage drops quickly or device cuts out too early:

  • The DW01A protection circuit cuts off the output when the battery voltage drops below about 2.5V to prevent deep discharge, which is a normal safety feature.
